Colorful Insights: Exploring the Impacts of our Color Choices
Make it stand out.
Think of a close friend. If you had to connect this friend to a color, which color would it be? And which color do you imagine your friend would associate with you?
These questions inspired our project in the Data Visualization Design course at ITU, where we explored how data visualization tools and methods can be applied, while critically reflecting on the socio-technical aspects of visualizing data.
My team and I decided to focus on the colors we choose to wear, aiming to uncover any deeper meanings behind these everyday decisions.
We collected data by photographing our outfits, mapping the colors, and coding an interactive model that presented our choices. This allowed us to challenge the notion that seemingly mundane decisions, like what we wear, may actually have a greater impact than we realize.
Key activities in this project included:
Collecting datasets
Data visualization
Sketching
Managing the design process (using Ben Fry’s seven steps)
Video explaining the project
Design Process
Visualization of our design process following Ben Fry’s seven steps
Gallery from data collection
Collection of sketching process
Visualization of coding process
Credits
This project was part of the Data Visualization Design course (Spring 2024) at the IT University of Copenhagen. It was completed as a group effort, with the final output being a product of our collective collaboration. I contributed to all aspects of the project, with a particular focus on visual design, layout, data collection, and project writing.
